The Private Palaces of the Cote D’Azur Nicholas Merchant Monday 10 February 2020

The mild winter climate was the antithesis of the snow and smog of Northern Europe attracting an influx of the wealthy and fashionable. Villas of amazing magnificence, indulgence and originality gave the coast a reputation for sensuality and a douceur de Vie. The 19th century no-go area became the first tourist resort.
