Charles H Mackie was educated in Edinburgh. His travels took him to Venice and France where he met Gaughin and Les Symbolists. Hornell welcomed him to Kirkcudbright which proved inspirational for him. He used an impressive range of media: oils, watercolours, murals and woodblock prints.
